Have you ever explain why the Watchtower strongly discourage higher education to non jws?
by Iamallcool inhow did you explain it to them?

It was explained to me by an elder. Just the typical stuff from the magazines These are the last days therefore focus on serving big J. In Universities sex, drugs, liquor runrampant. Higher education is pursued because people want fame, money, and prestige.

I apologize if a thread for this has been created already. I found the following in the Awake May 2013, Page 13
Earlier, in 607 B.C.E., Babylonian armies razed Jerusalem
and led most of the survivors into exile. How long
would the Jews be held? God said: “When seventy years
have been fulfilled I shall call to account against the king
of Babylon and against that nation . . . and I will make it
desolate wastes to time indefinite.”—Jeremiah 25:12.
As mentioned, Cyrus captured Babylon in 539 B.C.E.
Soon thereafter, he released the Jews, who began to arrive
in their homeland in 537 B.C.E.—exactly 70 years after
their deportation. (Ezra 1:1-4) As for Babylon, it eventually
became “desolate wastes”—again confirming the
accuracy of Bible prophecy.
The writer contradicts himself within two paragraphs. Is it 70 years for Babylon (fulfillment in 539 BCE) or is it 70 years of exile (fulfillment in 537 BCE)
The writer could have used the more questionable WT translation of Jer 29:10, but he decided to use the "wrong" verse instead (Jer 25:12).
WHY???
Jeremiah 29:10 For this is what Jehovah has said, ‘In accord with the fulfilling of seventy years at Babylon I shall turn my attention to ? YOU ? people, and I will establish toward ? YOU ? my good word in bringing ? YOU ? back to this place.’

4/1/2013 public WT, "A man named Andre' was very close to his father, who suddenly fell ill and died"
by Theocratic Sedition ini looked for a thread on this before posting, did i miss it?
andre is in the main article of the april public edition wt.
they gotta be having fun with this in the writing department!

I am sure I am missing the joke. What is all this about Andre that I hear so much. As far as I can go, it seems that the WT used a fictitious chracter and passed it as real to the rank and file. Any link that may help me partake of the joke?

I decided to send a rather flippant e-mail to an elder who gave me a bible study in the late 90's. He's a zealot among zealots. He inhales and exhales WT 24/7. Here's my email and his response. English is not our first language, but I am glad he responded in English because you can read it too. Please bear with some confusing writing. I have highlighted the interesting stuff of his response.
My email Dear Elder, I am preparing for the Watchtower study one week in advance and I read in Page 8 (Feb. 15, 2013): "Do you appreciate our spiritual heritage?" To the left of the question/title appear three persons holding very old magazines. Mr. Elder, do you appreciate those magazines? Have you ever read them? I don't think Jehovah's Witnesses appreciate their spiritual heritage. Almost all of them know near nothing about their history. They can only remember the latest study. I am very confident that I know more about their history than anyone in my wife's congregation including all elders, or your own congregation, including yourself. Don't you think it is time to show appreciation for your spiritual heritage? I can help you. I have most of the literature (books, magazines tracts) going back to 1879. Just bring me your laptop and you can have them all. Never a JW His response Hi Never a JW I'll give some answer: While I commend your interest in the history of our organization, it is an interest in our literary heritage that you attack. You don't understand what the spiritual heritage is because that is manifested in the qualities and personalities af the individuals who partake in such heritage. I also appreciate your desire to share your extensive library, I assure you however that I too could acquire such literature from the internet or eBay, amazon or international bookstores. Yes change has happened and those with the spiritual heritage have been thankful for the further understanding ad first century Christians were about their understanding of the Christ.. Jehova's witnesses understand their heritage and take pride in it, and this is why they dedicate time in the field preaching. They will not get into debate with teorist whose "finding" are at best deficient and unproductive. So is it Witnesses know almost nothing of their history? Your ability to understand does not exist at this moment because you are on the defensive. Have you really dedicated time and effort to "uncover" truths about a group you elevate yourself over? What is really the reason for your actions? Do you care so much for my well being that you wish that I see the "truth"? What is the desire. I'll be attentive to your response. Elder

Thanks Yknot,
I was unaware of the 2009 admission of responsibility by the WT regarding 1975. Can you provide more details, the magazine, date, page?

I have been studying JW's history and doctrines for less than a year and I already have far more knowledge than most C.O.'s or even D.O.'s. Is it because I know too much?, or is it because JW's know too little? I have brothers who are JW's and have been in the truth for over 20 years. The farthest back their knowledge of their history can go is 1975, and they actually believe the explanation given by the WT (it was the fault of the rank-and-file)
I just wonder if the picture of the three persons holding old magazines is a way to encourage JW's to read their own history through those old magazines. Sometimes I wonder if these articles are written by people who have awakened and are subtly trying to undermine the WT? I suspect that this year is going to be even more interesting than last year.

Cedars,
Include me there. One problem I see with the antiwatchtower movement in general is that the message is in English and that it is neglecting to bring the message to other languages, especially Spanish which may be the first language of possibly millions of JW's . I don't have much extra time, but I can put my tiny effort to produce/translate the message to Spanish. You can count on my support in every possible way I can do it.
Call me Winston Smith (recently I feel that way when I am surrounded by all my JW family member and friends) It's becoming a nightmarish experience.
Feel free to PM me. I can exchange email addresses with you guys. I live in California and own a small copying business. Use my niche if you find it useful
